Niti Aayog has compiled India Innovation Index 2019. The results of the report have been divided in three categories - major states, North East and Hill states and union territories. Here are the best performing statesUTs in their respective categories.

Delhi, Karnataka and Sikkim were the national leaders in innovation. Delhi has the highest score of 42.98 in the Niti Aayog's innovation index 2019. In the major states category Karnataka scored the maximum points (35.65). In the North East and hill states category Sikkim was the leader with 15.49 points.

The 2nd rank for innovation was secured by Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh in their respective categories in the Niti Aayog's Innovation Index. As per the report, these three states have provided good business environment which fosters innovation.

Maharashtra, Uttrakhand and Goa stood at the 3rd position in their categories. These states had better knowledge diffusion and investments than the all-India average.

Telangana, Manipur and Puducherry ranked 4th. In the case of Telangana, the state has better knowledge diffusion than the all-India average but fell short on safety and legal environment.

Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir and Andaman & Nicobar stood at the 5th rank in the innovation rankings 2019. These states have been performing above the national average on all of the parameters.

Kerala, Tripura and the UT of Daman & Diu ranked 6th in their respective categories. Kerala did not perform on the knowledge diffusion parameter whereas Tripura and Daman lacked on the investment front.

On the 7th spot, stood Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and the UT of Dadar & Nagar Haveli. Uttar Pradesh which has one of the largest workforce performed poorly on human capital, investments and knowledge of workers. While Arunachal Pradesh lacked on business environment, knowledge diffusion and safety and legal environment.

West Bengal, Assam and the UT of Lakshadweep ranked 8th. West Bengal suffered on innovation due to poor human capital, investments and knowledge of workers. While Assam fared poorly in every specified parameter in the Niti Aayog's report.

Gujarat and Nagaland ranked 9th in the innovation rankings. Gujarat lacked in knowledge diffusion and knowledge output, while Nagaland performed below the national average on every parameter.

Andhra Pradesh and Mizoram ranked 10th. Andhra Pradesh lacked investment, knowledge output and safety and legal environment, while Mizoram performed below the national average on every parameter except human capital.
