Paddy procurement for kharif season increases 26.5%

As on 27 October 2020, more than 17 million tonnes of paddy have been procured compared to 13.4 million tonnes during the kharif marketing season (KMS) 2019-20.

About 14.37 lakh farmers have benefitted from the ongoing KMS procurement operations with MSP value of Rs 32,195.69 crore.

Paddy procurement is continuing at a good pace in states & UTs such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala and Gujarat. Out of the total purchase of 17 MT, Punjab alone has contributed 11.5 MT which is 67.42 per cent of total procurement.

Upto 27 October, the government through its nodal agencies has procured 2306.41 MT of moong, urad and groundnut pods having MSP value of Rs 14.13 crore benefitting 1,697 farmers in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Haryana.

Similarly, 5,089 MT of copra (the perennial crop) having MSP value of Rs 52.40 crore has been procured benefitting 3,961 farmers in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Procurement operations of seed cotton (Kapas) under MSP are going on smoothly in the states of Punjab Haryana, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Till 27 October, a quantity of 4,42,266 cotton bales valuing Rs 1,299.51 crore has been procured benefitting 84,138 farmers.
