Freight traffic in November grew 9 per cent, year-on-year (YoY). This was the fourth straight month when revenue earning freight traffic recorded a YoY growth.
The pace of growth in freight traffic slowed down in November mainly due to a 0.7 per cent contraction in coal traffic.
Total iron ore traffic grew 6.3 per cent YoY to 13.9 million tonnes during the month.
Traffic of foodgrain moderated to 5.1 million tonnes in November after touching an all-time high of 6.3 million tonnes in October this year. Nonetheless, food traffic in November was 66.7 per cent higher than its year-ago level.
