Inflation was 1.2 per cent in August 2019. The pick-up in wholesale inflation has been on account of increase in inflation under the manufacturing (having the highest weight age of 64 per cent) and primary articles segment.
Wholesale inflation in food articles was marginally higher at 4.1 per cent in July 2020 .Wholesale inflation in the food articles have moderated to 3.8 per cent from the previous month (4.1 per cent in July).
Inflation in the non-food articles continued to record de-growth for the fifth consecutive month at -1.5 per cent in August, but the quantum of negative growth has eased from the previous month (-3.6 per cent in July).
Crude petroleum and natural gas inflation recorded at 17.9 per cent in August 2020 from an inflation of 22.25 per cent registered in July 2020.
Fuel inflation was at (-) 9.7 per cent in August 2020 compared to (-) 9.8 per cent in the last month. The negative inflation in this component can be ascribed to the sustained period of low global crude oil prices.
