A video of a car going from Ludhiana to Jalandhar in self-driving mode recently went viral on social media. No, it was not a Tesla, but a Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, fitted with a smartphone, which was being used to control the car. The smartphone was controlling the car with the help of open-source software, FlowPilot, developed by a Bengaluru-based techie, Mankaran Singh, along with two of his friends over three years. Explaining the functioning of the software, Mankaran told India Today TV, "The phone is placed in such a way that the back camera faces the front and the front camera faces inside towards the driver to ensure that he is alert. It then sends inputs to the software."
