Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman went hammer and tongs against Congress, the principal opposition party in the Lok Sabha, citing the mega Coal Scam of 2012 as an example of the deep-rooted corruption under the UPA government. In her speech in the lower house of the Parliament, Sitharaman said the scam did not only have a financial implication on the exchequer, but also led to job losses, loss of global investments, loss to ancillary industries, increase in coal imports and uncertainty of coal supplies to thermal power plants.
