Brexit impact: UK PM David Cameron announces decision to quit

British PM David Cameron had called the referendum in 2013 and campaigned to stay in the bloc. He said the new PM is expected to take charge by October.

British PM David Cameron on Friday announced he would resign within three months after the nation voted to leave European Union.   Cameron had called the referendum in 2013 and campaigned to stay in the bloc. He said the new PM is expected to take charge by October.

Cameron said the country need fresh leadership and he respects people's decision.

World financial markets plunged as complete results showed a near 52-48 percent split for leaving. The United Kingdom itself now faces a threat to its survival, as Scotland voted 62 per cent in favour of staying in the EU and is likely to press for a new referendum on whether to become independent after its 2014 vote to stay in the UK.
