The year 2020 was when we stayed inside our homes while cinema came to us, in our living rooms. With the novel coronavirus pandemic bringing life to a standstill, shooting of many Bollywood films was delayed and the release had to be pushed to next year. While some of the films like Coolie No 1, Laxmii and Gulabo Sitabo among others released on OTT, makers of other films decided to delay the release until cinema halls re-open. And on October 15, when theatres finally re-opened, films began returning to where they belong, in cinemas.There is hope that 2021 will be different. SooryavanshiAkshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif-starrer Sooryavanshi was originally slated to release in March this year. However, the novel coronavirus pandemic thwarted the makers' plans and the film's release had to be delayed until 2021. Also starring Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn, the film is expected to release in the first quarter of 2021.
83Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone's first film together after their dreamy 2018 wedding, 83, is a sports drama directed by Kabir Khan. It is based on India's historical 1983 World Cup win. 83 was initially slated to release in April this year. However, the release was deferred.
BrahmastraRanbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer, Brahmastra was supposed to be one of the biggest releases of 2020. The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan and was slated to hit the screens in December. A new release date is yet to be announced but we hope 2021 is the year we get to see Ranbir and Alia share screen space for the first time.
The White TigerStarring Priyanka Chopra and Rajkummar Rao in leading roles, The White Tiger is directed by Ramin Bahrani. The film will be available for streaming on Netflix in January 2021. It is based on Arvind Adiga's novel of the same name.
JerseyShahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur play the lead roles in Jersey. The film is the Hindi remake of the Telugu super-hit with the same name. Jersey is helmed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who also directed the original. Shahid will be playing the role of a cricket enthusiast, whose dream of making it to the Indian Cricket Team is fulfilled in his 40s.
TakhtKaran Johar's Magnum Opus, Takht is slated to release in Christmas 2021. The film stars Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Anil Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Janhvi Kapoor.
Laal Singh ChaddhaAamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan play the leading roles in Laal Singh Chaddha. The film is the official Hindi remake of Tom Hanks' Forrest Gump. The classic 1994 film was directed by Robert Zemeckis.
MaidaanBoney Kapoor's comeback as a producer, Maidaan, will release in October 2021. The film stars Ajay Devgn as Syed Abdul Rahim, who served as a coach and manager of Indian football team from 1950 until his death in 1963. Amit Ravindernath Sharma of Badhaai Ho! Fame has directed the film.
Bachchan PandeyAfter Housefull 4, Akshay Kumar and Kriti Sanon will be sharing screen space in Bachchan Pandey. The film is yet to go on floors and as per reports, the duo will start shooting for the same in January 2021. Bachchan Pandey is the remake of 2014 Tamil film Veeram.
Rashmi RocketTaapsee Pannu's physical transformation for Rashmi Rocket made a lot of headlines this year. The actress will be seen in the role of a sprinter, nicknamed Rocket by her fellow villagers. The film is likely to release next year. A date has not yet been announced.
Gangubai KathiawadiDirected by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Gangubai Kathiawadi made headlines when it was announced with Alia Bhatt in the leading role. The actress's first look was unveiled in January this year. The film is based on Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens of Mumbai.
The Song of ScorpionsStarring late actor Irrfan in the lead role, The Song of Scorpions premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in Locarno, Switzerland, in the year 2017. It will release in cinemas in India in 2021 and will give the audience a chance to watch Irrfan on the silver screen yet again.
