Copenhagen is the second European city in the list of top ten liveable cities and comes in at number 9. Despite the relatively high cost of living, it offers excellent infrastructure and healthcare. It hopes to become the world's most cycle-friendly city, with authorities aiming to increase the percentage of commuters who travel by bicycle to 50% by 2025.

Tokyo, which happens to be known as the safest city in the world, comes in at number 8 with a score of 97.2. The city is popular with tourists looking for both ultra-modern and traditional in one bustling metropolis.

Toronto, Canada Toronto gains the seventh spot with an overall liveability score of 97.2. Toronto, Canada's most populous city has also been named the most multicultural contemporary city in the world. The city, which is home to over 230 different nationalities, has 51% of its residents from outside Canada.

Vancouver, Canada Vancouver, for a very long period, has enjoyed the reputation of being the most liveable city from 2002 to 2010, and again in 2015.The city still boasts a very high liveability score of 97.3 despite falling short in a few areas. It has achieved perfect scores in healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

Calgary's ranking has gone down to fifth position from fourth in last year's survey. Calgary, which is home to 1.3 million people, is still recognized for its high quality of life.

Osaka, Japan Osaka has slipped from third to fourth place this year- but it didn't make it into the top 10 until 2018, when there was a decline in crime rates and an overall improvement in the quality of transportation. The port city is the second largest metropolitan area after Tokyo and is one of Japan's economic powerhouses.

Sydney, which was at the fifth spot last year, managed to come up to third position this year owing to advanced efforts towards tackling climatic hazards, improving its culture and environment score. But Australia's most populated city still remains one spot behind its rival, Melbourne.

Vienna, Austria Vienna is the world's most liveable city, again topping the index with an overall rating of 99.1 out of 100. It has been named the most liveable city for the second consecutive year in a  row and has consistently scored high in all similar surveys. Green spaces, coffee shops and a laid-back culture make the city perfect for settling down in.
