Arrival of the Trumps

US President Donald Trump arrived in Ahmedabad to a grand welcome by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. President Donald Trump was accompanied by First lady Melania Trump, daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner, apart from other high level delegates. The legendary Air Force One landed at the airport shortly before 12 pm. While Trump sported a flamboyant yellow tie, Melania looked stunning in white with a green sash around her waist.

Hug diplomacy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted US president Donald Trump with his famous 'bear hug'. It was not the only time he would hug the US President. The duo also hugged another 5 times at the Motera stadium in a show of friendship and bonhomie.

Protests against Trump's visit

In New Delhi, anti-Trump protests were carried out by All India Anti - imperialist Forum. CPI party general secretary D Raja had earlier asked all party units as well as civil society groups to protest on February 24 against Trump's visit to India. The protests were against the so-called US imperialist power.

Sabarmati Ashram

US President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump made a short visit to Sabarmati Ashram, one of the homes of Mahatma Gandhi and the place from where he began the Dandi March. The duo were seen trying their hand at the 'charkha' of the spinning wheel.

US President Trump and the First Lady also signed the guest register at Sabarmati Ashram. Trump thanked PM Modi for his hospitality calling him a 'great friend'.

It was a great moment as the President and First Lady were seen learning how to spin the wheel. It is one of India's most important and recognisable symbols of the freedom movement. It depicts self-reliance, something Gandhi stood for during the freedom movement.

The Beast

Indians got to feast their eyes on the luxury Limousine that President Trump uses. It is nicknamed 'The Beast'. The Beast is bullet and grenade proof, with doors as thick as those of a 757 jet. It carries all the amenities that the President might need on a trip, with a satellite phone and even the President's blood type.

Hello Taj

President Trump along with the First Lady, daughter and son-in-law, visited Taj, the 'monument of love'. He found the Taj awe-inspiring. The Taj Mahal had been given a swift makeover ahead of the visit. The Yamuna had been cleaned and water released into it. The Trumps also had their 'selfie' moment at the Taj.

'Namaste Trump' at Motera stadium, Ahmedabad

The high-point of Day 1 was the 'Namaste Trump' event at the Motera stadium which is the world's largest cricket stadium. It was attended by thousands of people who cheered the leaders. Trump addressed the crowd, after which Modi addressed the people, thanking Trump for his words of appreciation.
