Car sales continued to race ahead in September as Indian automakers posted double digit growth for the fourth month in a row on the back of buoyant demand. With the festive season set to kick in this month the sales are expected to spurt further.
Market leader Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) on Tuesday reported its highest- ever monthly sales of 1,08,006 units in September inclusive of exports which represents a 29.65 per cent increase over the year- ago period.
MSIL also posted its best- ever sales of 95,148 units in the domestic market during the month with a 32.90 per cent increase from 71,594 units in September, 2009.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the country's second largest car manufacturer, said its domestic sales grew by 14.2 per cent over the same period last year. The company sold 31,751 units in the domestic market against 27,803 units in September, 2009.
However, its exports dipped by 24.3 per cent from 25,999 units in September, 2009 to 19,690 units in September.
Tata Motors' total passenger vehicles sales in the domestic market stood at 23,877 units in September, a jump of 31 per cent from the same month last year.
Sales of Nano during the month stood at 5,520 units. However, Indica sales were down 37 per cent to 6,258 units. Indigo family recorded sales of 8,783 units.
Honda Siel Cars India ( HSCI) posted an impressive sales growth of 33.38 per cent by selling 7,728 units in September, 2010.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor registered a growth of 8.5 per cent in sales of 6,235 units, up from 5,748 units in September 2009. Meanwhile, Ford India saw its sales double to 8,380 units with its new car Figo gaining popularity.
General Motors posted a growth of 13 per cent in sales in September, driven by its Chevrolet Beat and Chevrolet Spark models.
The company recorded a sale of 8,617 units up from 7,654 vehicles in the same month last year.
Mahindra & Mahindra ( M& M) also said its sales of 35,177 units in September, up 23.71 per cent over the same period last year, was its best ever monthly performance.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported an 8.47 per cent jump in sales at 6,235 units during the month.
