Bajaj Auto on Thursday launched a 125 cc variant of its popular bike model Discover, priced up to Rs 45,500 (ex-showroom Delhi) as it looks to strengthen position in the mid segment of motorcycles.
The new bike will be powered by the company's patented DTSi (digital twin spark ignition) technology and will fill the gap between the 150cc and 100cc bikes of the Discover range.
"Although we are riding high on the success of the Discover 100 and the Discover 150, there is still a significant base of commuters who prefer an optimum combination of mileage and power," Bajaj Auto President Motorcycle Business S Sridhar said in a statement.
The Discover 125 is expected to cater to the unfulfilled need of the above set of commuters and spread the Discover excitement across the commuter segment, he added.
While the Discover 100cc is priced at Rs 43,500 and Discover 150cc at Rs 49,500, the new Discover 125cc will cost Rs 45,500 (ex-showroom Delhi), the company said.
Sridhar said with the launch of the new 125cc Discover Bajaj Auto is looking to swell up sales volumes.
"The current Discover volumes stand close to 1.2 lakh units per month and it has already become world's second largest two-wheeler brand. With the launch of this model we plan to clock volumes of 1.5 lakh per month for fiscal 2011- 12," he said.
