Bajaj Auto sales down 14 per cent in September

Bajaj Auto has reported a decline of 14 per cent in its overall sales for September, at 360,152 units from 417,686 units sold in the corresponding month last year.

"Despite sluggish market conditions, this is the second highest sales for any September. Sales degrowth is largely owing to the festive season this year being a month later than it was last year," the company said in a statement.

Exports of the two- and three-wheeler maker also plummeted by 6 per cent for the month under review at 133,222 units from 141,913 units sold in the like period of 2011.

Segment-wise, the motorcycle sales in September fell by 15 per cent at 315,314 units from 371,208 units sold last year. Three-wheeler sales in the month under review fell by 4 per cent at 44,838 units from 46,478 units sold in the like period of last year.

While the total cumulative sales of two and three wheelers for the period April to September 2012 fell by 6 per cent and stood at 2,128,179 units down from 2,256,952 units sold in the corresponding period of last financial year.

Cumulative exports in the period under review plummeted by 5 per cent at 805,930 units from 851,498 units shipped out in a period of April to September 2011.

The auto majors motorcycle sales for the period April to September 2012 fell by 4 per cent at 1,911,147 units from 1,990,408 units sold in the corresponding period of last financial year.

Cumulative three-wheeler sales in the period under review fell by 19 per cent at 217,032 units from 266,544 units in the corresponding period of last financial year.
