Hero launches three new bikes

The company, which closed the calendar year 2011 with highest ever sales number of 6.12 million units, expects these bikes to further drive up volumes. These bikes would be launched progressively over the next few months.

Hero MotoCorp is keen to dispel any notion that things could slow down for the world's largest manufacturer of motorcycle after it ended the 27-year-long partnership with Honda. This festive season the company had launched "Impulse", its first Hero-branded motorcycle, an on-road, off-road bike. On Wednesday, it unveiled a range of what it calls 'next generation' bikes - two motorcycles and a scooter for men - under the new Hero brand name.

Maestro - a 110 cc scooter, targets young adults between 18 to 24 year olds. Says Anil Dua, senior vice president (marketing & sales), Hero MotoCorp, "Maestro combines the convenience of a scooter and the needs of a young adults." The product is expected to help Hero get a further hold on the scooter segment which is growing at 30 per cent.

The other product is the "Passion X Pro", the company's first 110 cc offering. The 'Ignitor' - a 125 cc bike that promises thrill and adventure - joins Super Splendour and Glamour, the company's two other brands in this segment.

The company plans to launch 8 new models this year.
