Mahindra's latest Scorpio launched at Rs 9.97 lakh; more powerful than ever

The good old mHawk engine running the higher variants of the 2017 Mahindra Scorpio facelift has also been tweaked to churn out 140 bhp max power, instead of 120 bhp, and 320 Nm, which is a first for one of the most popular SUV line-ups in India.

As expected, the Mahindra Scorpio facelift was launched in Indian markets today with price starting from Rs 9.97 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Fitted with a tuned mHawk engine that can churn out 140 bhp, Mahindra is calling this refreshed iteration of the popular Indian SUV the 'most-powerful Scorpio ever'. The 2017 Mahindra Scorpio facelift gets some cosmetic changes too that makes the already beefed up SUV more imposing.

Although the motor under the hood of the 2017 Mahidnra Scorpio facelift remains the same 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine driving the Scorpion since long, it comes paired with a 6th generation Borg Warner Turbo charger, which Mahindra claims 'makes the drive peppy and responsive'.

The good old mHawk engine running the higher variants of the 2017 Mahindra Scorpio facelift has also been tweaked to churn out 140 bhp max power, instead of 120 bhp, and 320 Nm, which is a first for one of the most popular SUV line-ups in India. The low-end torque of the new Mahindra Scorpio ensures a better urban driving experience, whereas abundant mid-range torque helps easy highway driving, Mahindra claims.

The 2017 Mahindra Scorpio facelift will be available in variants as follows - the S3 base trim with mDCIR engine producing 75 bhp, S5 and S7 variants with mHawk engine doing 120 bhp max power and 280 Nm max torque, and lastly the top-end S7 and S11 variants with the tuned mHawk engine dishing out 140 bhp max power, 320 Nm max torque.

The S3, S5 and S7 (120 bhp) trims will have a 5-speed manual transmission, whereas the S7 (140 bhp) variant will receive a new 6-speed manual transmission. The S11 variant also comes with optional four-wheel drive. The new Mahindra Scorpio will be available in Pearl White (only on S11), Diamond White (except S11), Napoli Black, D Sat Silver, and Molten Red colour options.

The 2017 Mahindra Scorpio facelift come with better technological features now like reverse parking camera with dynamic assist, one-touch lane change indicator, projector headlamps with static bending technology and LED eyebrows, 6-inch touch screen infotainment system with GPS navigation in 10 languages, voice assist system and more.

As for cosmetic changes, the new Mahindra Scorpio has new front grille with chrome inserts, muscular alloy wheels, ORVMs with integrated side turn indicators, clear lens turn indicators and bold chrome highlights in the headlamps, skid plate, refurbished upper and lower grille mesh design, new air extractors.

As for safety features, the 2017 Mahindra Scorpio facelift gets dual front airbags, 9.1 Bosch ABS, panic brake indication, collapsible steering column and side intrusion beams, engine immobilizer, speed alert, and auto door lock while driving.

The new 2017 Mahindra Scorpio facelift will be available in Mahindra dealerships across the country starting today.

Meanwhile, Mahindra XUV500, TUV300 Plus and a compact SUV S201 based on SsangYong Tivoli, were seen on a test run recently. The Mahindra XUV500 facelift is expected to come out some time during the early 2018.
