Maruti to restore full production in 15-30 days: Haryana minister Randeep Singh Surjewala

Haryana Industries Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala says the auto company would invest Rs 1,700 crore for setting up C-plant in its Manesar unit while the company is in the process

Maruti Suzuki India is expected to restore its original production capacity at its Manesar plant within a fortnight or month, Haryana Industries Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said on Friday.

The minister also said the question of car maker relocating its unit to anywhere outside Haryana does not arise at all. Rumours in this regard are baseless, he added.

He said the auto company would invest Rs 1,700 crore for setting up C-plant in its Manesar unit while the company is in the process of setting up Asia's biggest R&D and track and testing facility, Suzuki's motorcycle facility, entailing an investment of Rs 3,500 crore, in Industrial Model Township at Rohtak over 700 acres of land.

"At present, plant-A and plant-B are back in production and on August 22, 186 cars were produced. Maruti (Suzuki) is expected to restore its original production capacity within next fortnight or month," said Surjewala, in his reply to Calling Attention Motion given by BJP MLA Anil Vij in Haryana Vidhan Sabha.

He also claimed that the lockout at Manesar plant was lifted because of the "sincere efforts" of Haryana government and said the management of the Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) expressed full confidence in the government's response to the violent incident at Manesar facility in July that claimed the life of a General Manager and injured many others.

Following violence, the company had announced lockout at Manesar unit.

He noted that state's industrial climate was fully intact even after the unfortunate incident occurred at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant.

"It would be incorrect to believe that one unfortunate incident could affect the faith of investors in Haryana and its progressive economic environment," he said.

Surjewala said that as a result of sincere efforts of Haryana government, the lockout at Manesar facility was lifted with effect from August 21.
