German carmaker Mercedes-Benz has launched its latest S-Class luxury sedan in India, priced at Rs 1.57 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). The new S-Class will be available in only one trim at the launch, the S500 - the petrol variant.

The new model comes with a 4.6 litre V8 engine with 7G-Tronic Plus 7 speed automatic transmission and has a top speed of 250 km per hour. The equipment list is vast, and you get things that you'd perhaps just wished!

The S-Class has got the world's first all LED lighting system in the car's exterior and interior. There is an energising hot stone massage option in the rear of the car that can be controlled with the Touch app on Android devices.

It also comes equipped with Burmester 3D surround sound system with 24 high-performance speakers and a rear cabin that can be converted into a mobile office with folding tables, individual entertainment system and built-in wireless hotspot. There is a 360-degree surround view camera along with Night View Assist support for improved visibility assuring minimum blind spots. The keyless entry allows access to the front and the boot of the car.

The company launched the car in India in just three months after getting a great feedback during its global launch in October 2013.

"The launch of the S-Class commences our 'Year of Excellence' in Indian market and perfectly lives up to its role as a representative of the power of innovation and exclusivity of Mercedes-Benz," says Eberhard Kern, MD and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India.

He added that they have received 125 bookings of the limited Launch Edition in 16 days that will be delivered in next few weeks and follow up with the locally assembled product later.

On expansion plans, Kern says: "We are expanding our plant in Pune. We are looking at doubling our production facility to 20,000 cars from 10,000 cars per year. We are looking at double digit growth this year."

He added that more than half of the business for Mercedes-Benz is coming from tier-II and tier-III cities. The demand of the cars is across the category and is very similar to metropolitans like Delhi and Mumbai. At the moment, Mercedes-Benz has 3,500 S-Class cars running on the Indian roads.

Mercedes-Benz has launched 8 cars in 2013 and is gearing up for the next India launch at Auto-Expo next month. At the moment, the company has 61 outlets all over the India and plans to add 10 more this year.
