Two and three wheeler manufacturer TVS Motor Company
witnessed a marginal decline in sales at 8.33 per cent, selling a total of 1,56,221 units in December 2012.
The Chennai-based company sold 1,70,428 units during the same month of previous year, a company statement said.
On the sales of two-wheelers, the company registered 1,51,735 units in December 2012, against 1,67,905 units registered in the same month of previous year.
Domestic sales of two-wheelers witnessed a decline at 1,34,566 units in December 2012 from 1,46,747 units sold in same month of previous year.
In terms of sale of motorcycles, the company, amid stiff competition from Japanese motor-cycle makers Yamaha and Honda respectively, registered a 6 per cent increase at 60,210 units in December 2012 as against 56,662 units in December 2011.
Sales of scooters dipped to 30,398 units in December 2012 from 44,804 units in same month of previous year, the company said.
The company's sales in overseas market slipped to 20,251 units in December 2012 from 22,481 units sold in December 2011. Two-wheeler exports slumped to 17,169 units in December 2012 from 21,158 units in December 2011, it said.
Sales of three-wheelers grew by 77.8 per cent to 4,486 units in December 2012 from 2,523 units in the same month of previous year.
Shares of the company on Wednesday closed 1.53 per cent down at Rs 41.95 on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
