Merchandise exports rise 5.4% to $27.2 billion in January

India's merchandise exports in January 2021 were $27.24 billion as compared to $25.85 billion in January 2020, an increase of 5.37 per cent.
India's merchandise imports in January 2021 were $41.99 billion as compared to $41.15 billion in January 2020, an increment of 2.05 per cent.
India is a net importer in January 2021 with a trade deficit of $14.75 billion, as compared to trade deficit of $15.30 billion in January 2020, marking a decline of 3.57 per cent.
Engineering goods exports increased by 18.69 per cent in January 2021 from year-ago levels. It is India's biggest export in January 2021 as compared to January 2020.
Commodity group showing the highest growth in import level during January 2021 over the corresponding month of last year is Gold with 154.70 per cent.
Major commodities which have recorded negative export growth during January 2021 as compared to January 2020 are petroleum products (37.34 per cent), leather and leather manufactures (18.60 per cent), RMG of all textiles (10.73 per cent), etc.
Petroleum, crude & products segment saw the biggest decline in imports during January 2021 as compared to January 2020, falling as much as $3,606 Million.
