Hyundai Motor India’s Chief of Operations, Tarun Garg, outlined the company’s growth plans, emphasizing a "calibrated expansion" to exceed 1,000,000 vehicle production capacity with the addition of the Pune plant. Hyundai’s robust EV strategy includes launching the Creta EV in 2025, followed by three more EV models targeting mid-market consumers. Hyundai aims to strengthen its global manufacturing capabilities, particularly in emerging markets, while boosting its brand presence in India through strategic marketing initiatives. Garg addressed questions on why Hyundai has only one EV in India despite being a global leader in the EV market. He explained that Hyundai's approach in India started with the Kona in 2019 to understand the EV customer base, followed by the Ioniq 5, which established a premium and high-tech brand image. Moving forward, Hyundai’s EV strategy will focus on localization, including battery pack assembly and collaboration with local and global suppliers, as well as developing India’s charging infrastructure.
