In an exclusive interview with Business Today TV, Payyavula Keshav, Finance Minister of Andhra Pradesh, has shared that a special demand by the state has been put up to raise funds through additional levy of 1 per cent goods and services tax for damage caused due to rains and floods in the state opened floodgate of similar requests for disaster-specific levy by other states in the 55th GST meeting in Jaisalmer. On the request of the state of Andhra Pradesh, the council has recommended that a group of ministers be constituted to examine the legal and structural issues and recommend a uniform policy on the imposition of levy in case of a natural disaster/calamity in the state.
