Bangladesh is in turmoil following the forced exit of Sheikh Hasina under military duress, leading to widespread chaos. A mob set ablaze the five-star hotel Zabir International, owned by Awami League Party general secretary Shahin Chakkladar, resulting in the deaths of at least 24 people, including an Indonesian national. Eminent Hindu Bangladeshi singer Rahul Ananda’s 140-year-old house in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi was also targeted, with over 3,000 musical instruments destroyed and the house ransacked. This act of violence occurred shortly after French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Ananda's residence in September 2023. The targeting of minorities has been condemned by figures such as spiritual leader Sadhguru. The opposition BNP staged a significant rally in Dhaka, showcasing their strength, and images emerged of former PM Khaleda Zia after her release from house arrest. Her son, Tariq Rahman, has returned from exile in London. Meanwhile, an interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus is taking shape. Sheikh Hasina, now under heavy security at Hindon IAF airbase near Delhi, remains uncertain about her next steps, with her asylum status still unresolved.
