U.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled a radical plan for Gaza, envisioning a U.S. takeover and transformation of the war-torn strip into a “Riviera of the Middle East”. Trump, standing alongside Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, declared the U.S. would “own” Gaza, clear the rubble, and rebuild it into a luxury destination. The plan involves relocating the current population of nearly 2 million Palestinians, with Trump suggesting they would be welcomed by allies like Egypt and Jordan. He stated that Gaza is “not a place for people to be living” and expressed his belief that Palestinians would prefer a “beautiful alternative that's safe”. However, Trump's vision has been met with strong condemnation. The Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas denounced any U.S. takeover as a violation of international law. Saudi Arabia affirmed its commitment to an independent Palestinian state and rejected normalizing relations with Israel until that happens. Egypt also rejected the plan. Critics are blasting the plan as unrealistic and a form of 21st-century colonialism.
