Exclusive: Delhi CM Atishi On How Delhi Will Bear The Cost Of Freebies

Asked about the impact of the promised sop of ₹2,100 for every adult woman in Delhi, the Chief Minister insisted that Delhi was capable of absorbing the financial cost. She spoke about how Delhi was the only state which did not receive funds from the Centre and how despite contributing a claimed ₹2 lakh crore in Income Tax to the exchequer, the state was given a raw deal by the union government. As per Atishi, Delhi’s revenues have grown 2.5 times in the past 10 years. The conversation assumes greater importance as it comes just ahead of the announcement of dates for Delhi assembly elections.
