Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in an exclusive interview with India Today Group, exuded confidence that the BJP-led NDA is on course of winning 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. Quizzed on opposition allegations that his government has been unable to rein in prices, PM Modi gave several instances of how the NDA government has ensured more money in the hands of citizens. He cited lower income tax rates, lower electricity bills, free medical treatment for the poor, cheaper generic medicines and the free grains for poor scheme. He also took a swipe at the Congress saying the highest inflation was posted under the Prime Ministership of Indira Gandhi. He also recalled how helpless Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru sounded in his Independence Day speech in the country’s fight against high prices at that time.
