Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on April 11 drew a comparison between India and Pakistan in response to a question on ‘violence against Muslims’ in India. She said, “Pakistan was formed at the same time, India was divided into two. Pakistan declared itself as an Islamic country but however, but it said that minorities will be protected. Every minority has been dwindling in numbers, or if I may use the word which is harsher, decimated in Pakistan. Even some of the Muslim sects have also been decimated. Whereas in India, every strand of Muslim is doing their business, their children are getting educated, fellowships are being given by the government.” Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made this statement while speaking at the Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE) on Free Trade Agreements in Washington.
