The town of Joshimath in Uttarakhand is sinking. Located at a height of 6,000 ft in Chamoli district, Joshimath, which falls on the route to Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib, is in a high-risk seismic zone. The cracks on the walls and floors are getting deeper and wider with each passing day. More than 500 houses in the city have been affected. Over 30 families have been evacuated to safer locations. Hundreds of residents are on the streets demanding Govt help as sinking land threatens their homes. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has assured necessary steps would be taken.Also, the Chamoli district administration on Thursday stopped the widening of the Char Dham road between Helang and Marwari.
