India has accused Chinese smartphone maker Vivo and some of its employees of visa violations and financial misconduct. The allegations include concealing their employment when applying for visas and visiting sensitive regions in India. These accusations have further escalated tensions between India and China, following India's tightened investment regulations and the banning of numerous Chinese apps after border clashes in 2020. A Vivo executive, Guangwen Kuang, was arrested as part of a money laundering investigation. The Enforcement Directorate in India claims that over 30 Chinese nationals entered India on business visas as Vivo employees and violated visa conditions. The agency also alleges that Vivo illegally siphoned off $12.87 billion to its Chinese parent company, raising serious concerns about financial impropriety. The ongoing investigations and strained relations between India and Vivo continue to be a significant issue.
