The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, has greenlit the construction of a new rail-cum-road bridge over the Ganga River in Kashi. The ₹2,642 crore project will be completed in four years, replacing the aging 137-year-old Malviya Bridge. Designed to last 150 years, this one-kilometer bridge will enhance connectivity between Varanasi and Chandauli districts, while easing congestion on one of Indian Railways' busiest routes. This bridge will have 4 lane railway tracks and 6 lane highway deck. Also, this bridge will connect the Northern, Eastern and Western part of the country. The project is also set to save ₹638 crore annually in diesel costs, reducing fuel consumption by 8 crore liters each year. Watch the video for more insights!
