A wave of deportations from the United States has brought to light disturbing allegations of mistreatment of Indian migrants. In this report, we uncover the harrowing experiences of deportees who arrived in Amritsar on US military flights, claiming they were handcuffed and shackled throughout the journey. One of the deportees alleges that he was forced to remove his turban, a deeply disrespectful act for Sikhs, and that it was thrown in the dustbin. Deportees further claim they faced torture in detention camps and were provided with inadequate food, limited to chips and juice. Many also recount being deceived by visa agents who swindled them out of significant sums, pushing them to take illegal routes to the US. The deportations have ignited a political firestorm, with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann questioning why these flights are landing in Amritsar. Opposition parties are accusing the Modi government of failing to protect Indian citizens from dehumanizing treatment. Despite PM Modi's vow to dismantle the human trafficking ecosystem during his US visit, the crackdown continues, with over 300 Indian illegals deported this year and more expected to follow under President Trump's intensified immigration policies.
