Government-owned BEML has landed the contract to build India’s own ‘Bullet Train’. BEML was issued the ₹867-crore contract to build two trainsets with 8 coaches each capable of speeds of up to 280 kilometres per hour. The trainsets are to be built at the company’s Bengaluru facility and have to be delivered by 2026-end. The high-speed trains will be indigenously designed and fully built in India. The order follows some reported cost and delivery issues related to Japanese-built Bullet Trains for the inaugural Mumbai-Ahmedabad route.
