In Karnataka's Vijayapura, a recent Waqf land ownership dispute has left around 41 farmers shocked and uncertain about their future. The local tehsildar informed them that their land now falls under the Waqf Board's jurisdiction. Farmers, already concerned about similar cases in Kerala and Telangana, voiced fears about losing their livelihoods. Despite the tense situation, the district deputy commissioner clarified in a press release that no private lands have been officially transferred to the Waqf Board, reassuring farmers that they still hold rights over their properties. The commissioner urged those affected to present any ownership proof for verification. On the other side, the Waqf Board defended its actions, asserting that it seeks only properties it deems rightfully theirs. The issue has sparked protests among farmers determined to fight for their land, creating a volatile atmosphere as they struggle to protect their agricultural future.
