On the 150th Foundation Day of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the department's remarkable advancements in weather forecasting and public safety. He emphasized that IMD’s focus has been to provide accurate weather information that reaches every person in India. With initiatives like the "Early Warning for All" facility, more than 90% of the population now receives timely weather updates. IMD’s forecasts, accessible on WhatsApp and through apps like Meghdoot, are now available in local languages, benefiting farmers and citizens alike.

PM Modi also praised the significant improvements in providing real-time warnings, such as alerts for lightning strikes, which help safeguard people, especially fishermen at sea. Over the years, these updates have not only protected lives but have also supported key sectors like agriculture and the blue economy. The PM emphasized that meteorology plays a crucial role in disaster management, and enhancing meteorological efficiency is essential to minimizing the impact of natural disasters.
