Fuel prices are pinching the people of Karnataka, burning a hole in the pockets of commuters across the state. The Siddaramaiah government has increased the sales tax on petrol by 3.92% and on diesel by 4.10%, leading to significant hikes. As a result, the price of petrol in Bengaluru has surged by ₹3, bringing it to ₹102.84 per litre, while the price of diesel has risen by ₹3.02, now costing ₹88.95 per litre. This tax hike aims to boost state revenue but has sparked widespread criticism. The BJP has vehemently opposed the increase, demanding a rollback and threatening a statewide protest on June 17. BJP leaders, including BY Vijayendra and Prakash Sesharaghavachar, have voiced their discontent, urging the government to reconsider. In response, CM Siddaramaiah defended the fuel price hike, emphasizing the necessity of the measure for fiscal stability. As the debate intensifies, commuters continue to bear the brunt of the rising costs, adding to the growing public outcry against the government's decision.
