During a podcast conversation with Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a fascinating anecdote from his early days as Prime Minister in 2014. Modi recounted receiving courtesy calls from world leaders congratulating him on assuming office, one of whom was Chinese President Xi Jinping. During their conversation, Xi expressed a keen interest in visiting India, particularly Gujarat. The Prime Minister revealed that Xi’s curiosity about Gujarat was tied to a historical connection with his own village in China. Xi shared that the famous Chinese philosopher and traveler Hiuen Tsang (Xuanzang), celebrated for his extensive travels in India, had spent a significant part of his journey in Vadnagar, Modi’s birthplace. Upon returning to China, Hiuen Tsang had settled in Xi’s village, forming an unexpected link between the two leaders’ hometowns.
