SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey has clarified that the market regulator is not currently considering allowing stock exchanges to list or trade their own shares. His remarks come days after reports suggested that SEBI could form a committee to examine regulations for exchange self-listing. Pandey said no panel is considering the proposal at present and added that any such move would be communicated if and when it happens. The issue has gained attention after NSE Chairman Srinivas Injeti backed reconsideration of exchange self-listing. The debate also centres on governance, conflict-of-interest concerns and oversight requirements for exchanges listing on their own platforms.
