Tamil Nadu Police detained nearly 600 workers of Samsung Electronics who have been protesting for nearly a month. Workers have been on a strike at Samsung's Sriperumbudur plant near Chennai, demanding higher wages and union recognition at the plant. According to police, Samsung employees and workers linked various unions were detained as their protest march was inconveniencing the public. The Tamil Nadu police had earlier detained 104 striking Samsung workers for almost a day on September 16. Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has written to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin asking for a swift resolution of the ongoing workers' strike. Samsung has said the striking workers risk losing their jobs. The South Korean company has previously said the workers at its plant in Sriperumbudur earn nearly double that of similar workers in the region.
