From 2014 to 2026, India has witnessed major shifts across its economic, digital, infrastructure and strategic landscape. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi completes 12 years in office, this special package looks at the key changes that have shaped India over the period — from GST and the expansion of the formal banking system to UPI, manufacturing incentives and a sharper focus on infrastructure-led growth. The transformation has also extended to welfare delivery and connectivity, with Direct Benefit Transfer, PM Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission and Ayushman Bharat forming part of the government’s broader welfare architecture. Infrastructure expansion has included highways, airports, railway electrification, Vande Bharat trains and multimodal planning through PM Gati Shakti. India’s digital payments story has meanwhile become a global one, with UPI accounting for nearly half of global real-time payment transaction volume in 2025. On the global stage, the package traces India’s growing engagement through the G20, BRICS, vaccine diplomacy and its wider Global South outreach, alongside developments in space exploration including the Chandrayaan missions and India’s growing human-spaceflight ambitions. As Modi enters the later half of his third term, the focus increasingly centres on the government’s stated vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’. Watch this special report for a look at the policies, programmes and milestones that have shaped India’s transformation since 2014.
