Smooth way to pay

Smooth way to pay

For many commuters, the worst part about using public transport is not the crowd, noise or traffic; it's the tedium of carrying a large amount of loose change.

Now, your burden is set to reduce, thanks to the proposed One India Mobility card. You will be able to swipe this card to pay for the use of any public transport across the country. So you don't need to buy individual tickets for buses, trains, taxis, ferries or auto rickshaws.

The only means of transport not included is air travel. The Union Urban Development Ministry has been working on the concept for the past one year and has already earmarked six cities where the pilot project is to be launched.

These are Delhi, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Bhopal, Indore and Mumbai. Plans are also afoot to extend the service to include payments for toll, car parking, utility bills and shopping. The project needs massive infrastructural inputs, especially the installation of card reading validators in all public transport vehicles as well as at train stations, bus stops and taxi stands.

An added advantage: you won't need to haggle with the autowallah or taxi driver as the fares will be fixed and so will the method of payment.
