Mamata Banerjee's 2011-12 Rail Budget on Friday saw an ugly spat between the Opposition and treasury benches over an alleged bias towards her state West Bengal.
After the railway minister made a slew of announcements for her state with an eye on polls, such as expansion of Kolkata Metro, a coach factory in Singur and a rail industrial park in Nandigram, the entire Opposition was on its feet and disrupted her Budget speech, alleging 'bias'.
However, Mamata stood her ground, saying, "When I speak about other states, they keep quit. But when I speak about West Bengal, they start shouting. But I'm proud of my state and will continue to work for it."
This enraged the Opposition further, who refused to allow her to speak. Even as JD-U leader Sharad Yadav drew her attention to the various pending projects in Bihar, Mamata remained unfazed, telling the Opposition, "Don't shout".
