Setting up of a passenger helpline, better ticketing facilities, upgraded stations, surveillance cameras for enhanced passenger safety, online booking of retiring rooms and cleaner trains are very positive developments for the domestic travel sector.
Railways are the primary means of transport to many tourist hubs that are under-served by the airline industry, due to infrastructure and logistic challenges.
The introduction of train sets similar to bullet trains will also reduce travel time leading to a smoother travel experience.
Hygienic and user-friendly passenger amenities on Railways will provide a boost to domestic travel and present India as a tourist-friendly destination for international travellers as well.
Introduction of SMS alerts for train timings and development of a mobile app to address consumer complaints are the need of the hour in a country where mCommerce is set to grow explosively in the next two years.
It is indeed heartening to see the government take this progressive step.
