1 Goan = 2 Tamilians

Getting rich is not only dependent on what you do, but probably also on where you live. Data from the Economic Survey shows that the smaller states have more affluent residents. Here are the top five.
A Goan, for instance, earns more than twice as much a Tamilian - Rs 327,059 per capita income for a Goan against Rs 153,263 for a Tamilian.

If you live in the national capital Delhi, that earns you Rs 303,073 - which is three times the average net national income of Rs 103,219 and more than 8 times the per capita income of a Bihari, which stands at Rs 35,590.
Delhi and Goa are the only two states where the per capita income is above three lakh rupees.

Sikkim, the world's second largest producer of cardamom, is a surprise at third, with a per capita figure of Rs 257,182.

At fourth place is the Union Territory of Chandigarh, with a per capita figure of Rs 229,976.

Haryana, thanks to a combination of agriculture and industry, has a per capita income of Rs 180,174 - which is more than twice that of Madhya Pradesh, at Rs 72,599.
