Snapdeal goes multilingual with Hindi and Telugu

The company is adding support for 11 regional languages starting with Hindi and Telugu.

Ecommerce player Snapdeal has announced the launch of its multilingual platform.

The company is adding support for 11 regional languages starting with Hindi and Telugu.

The support for other Indian languages including Oriya, Gujarati, Tamil, Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Assamese and Punjabi will be added by next month (January 26, 2016).

Currently, the feature has been added to the lite version of the website, Snaplite and the same will go live on the website and the mobile app sometime soon. According to the company, the multilingual user interface has been developed on the basis of the feedback it received from both its buyers and sellers.

As a result, the company created a multilingual project team within Snapdeal to ensure a consistent user experience in each language.

It has also developed a Grammar Engine to ensure an error free translation. This multi-lingual platform combines translation, trans-literation and grammar check to deliver relevant experience in each language.

Rohit Bansal, Co-Founder, Snapdeal says, "Customers are at the heart of everything we do and we are excited about using technology to make the experience more authentic for our users. India's linguistic diversity is a huge opportunity to expand the market to include those users who would prefer to engage online in their native languages. Our decision to go multi-lingual is driven by the feedback that we have received from our users. We are sure this will enable millions of new users to join the digital commerce revolution that is sweeping across India. Snapdeal's multi-lingual platform will redefine the rules of the game and will allow sellers and buyers from all across India to explore and transact without any constraints of language."
