Different sustainable development targets needed for different countries, says Prakash Javadekar

Minister of State (IC) of Environment, Forests & Climate Change Prakash Javadekar said that the government was committed to meet its renewable energy target of 100,000 mw by 2020.

Speaking at the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit, Minister of State (IC) of Environment, Forests & Climate Change Prakash Javadekar said that the year was historic for climate change negotiations with three main global events lined up in 2015. He hoped that the Paris talks - to be held in December - will have a smooth passage and a new agreement will be reached: "I hope the world will deliver at Paris."

Javadekar stressed that sustainable development goals or SDGs cannot be uniform for all countries. "Their will have to be different targets for different countries, as countries are at different stages of development." Each country's right to development should be respected keeping in view the larger vision of sustainable development.

He pointed out that in the Lima Talks India took the lead and asserted that climate negotiations are not only for officials and experts.
The minister said that the Modi government is committed to sustainable development and advocates moving from carbon credits to green credits.  

Javadekar said that the government was committed to meet its renewable energy target of 100,000 mw by 2020.
