Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy on Thursday described Ratan Tata as the most corrupt chairman in the history of the Tata Group. This was not the first time Swamy attacked Ratan Tata.
Earlier in the month, Swamy wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a Special Investigation Team probe against Ratan Tata for alleged money laundering.
Swamy's move came in the backdrop of Cyrus Mistry's letter to the Tata Sons Directors which highlighted ethical and financial concerns in the airlines that are partly owned by India's largest conglomerate.
Mistry, who was removed by the Board of Directors, had written that letter to defend his decisions taken during his period as the Group Chairman and also highlighted the problems he inherited.
In the letter, Mistry talked of "fraudulent transactions of Rs 22 crores involving non-existent parties in India and Singapore" in the case of Air Asia.
"The most corrupt person in Tata history is Ratan Tata. He is not even a Tata, as his father was an adopted child," Swamy reportedly said.
"Ratan Tata is doing injustice with Cyrus Mistry. Two months back, the entire board appreciated the work of the Cyrus Mistry and it could be his (Ratan Tata's) jealousy that prompted the action," he further added.
Swamy further said that Ratan Tata has been involved in various scams like the 2G scam, Air Asia scam, the Vistara partnership and the Jaguar deal.
"He has taken the step to save himself from getting caught in scam deals, but he will not be spared whenever he is tried in court," Swamy said.
Asking for the government action Swamy said, "The government should intervene and set up an SIT. I have written to the Prime Minister and informed him about the sections involved where Ratan Tata has breached the Indian Penal Code."
In 2013, the Tata Group announced its joint venture with Air Asia, the budget airline based in Malaysia.
