Student message to Narendra Modi: Revive India brand image

Business Today talks to Shobhit Mathur, PGP class of 2015, Indian School of Business (Hyderabad), on what should be the new government's agenda -

>> Narendra Modi should focus his attention the most on the youth of India. Jobs in the organised sector today cannot absorb the youth population. We need rapid economic growth and job creation. We have lost the edge to China in many labour-intensive industries. These jobs should be recreated by pushing investment in SMEs and giving them incentives.

>> India's brand image in the international business world has taken a beating with the recent corruption scandals. Modi should rebuild the confidence of the international business community by adding transparency and accountability to the current system.

>> The education system has not delivered the goods. School enrollment has increased, but education quality still is way off the mark. We need better teachers and a more practical curriculum. Modi and his team should take a re-look at this and make fundamental changes.

>> We have a high dependence on foreign sources for energy needs. Not only does this cause a drain of precious capital, it makes us very vulnerable politically. We need rapid improvement in public transportation and a simultaneous investment in indigenous sources of energy.
