Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has given an in-principle approval to Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) for a 1,000-MW power plant in the state.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has given an in-principle approval to Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) for a 1,000-MW power plant in the state.

The proposed plant will have three units of 330 MW each.

A spokesman of the chief minister's office said the Punjab government has given approval for setting up the plant in the state's Ropar district, 50 km from Chandigarh.

The nod was given at a meeting of Badal, senior government officials and GAIL's top brass, including Chairman and Managing Director B.C. Tripathi.

"About 150 acres of land is already available in the vicinity of the Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal plant at Ropar, besides assured gas supply from Dadri-Nangal pipeline," the spokesman said.
