IT outsourcing major Wipro is all set to replace around 3000 engineers with its artificial intelligence tool Holmes, also known as heuristics and ontology-based learning machines and experiential systems.

According to a report published in the Mint, "Wipro Ltd will use its artificial intelligence platform Holmes to automate several aspects of its so-called fixed-price projects, saving up to $46.5 million and freeing around 3,000 engineers from mundane software maintenance activities."

The AI platform, Holmes, is expected to increase efficiency for clients by minimizing errors and bringing down costs involved in deploying resources.

The move comes at a time when Wipro's chief executive officer Abidali Neemuchwala has set ambitious revenue targets for Wipro.

IT giants like Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) and Infosys Ltd are also using their AI platforms, Ignio and Mana, respectively, to increase efficiency and revenue per employee.
