Cipla extends medical support to Nepal earthquake victims

Indian pharma firm Cipla has come to the aid of victims of the Nepal earthquake tragedy. It has begun supplying medicines and blankets through its Sikkim-based plant to the state government, which in turn has extended the support to Nepal.

According to a company official been involved with these developments, Cipla began by supplying goods worth Rs 3 lakh on Thursday from its Sikkim plant.

Some of the medicines that have been provided include antibiotics, analgesics and antibacterials including medicines to deal with diarrhoea.

The plant, which manufactures finished dosages (tablets etc), is also said to have suffered minor damage due to the earthquake but an official added that day-to-day operations were not affected.

Meanwhile, other Indian and foreign multinational pharmaceutical companies are also mulling strategies for helping the earthquake victims, according to Shripad Desai, Managing Director, AmeriCares India, a public charitable trust.
