Former telecom minister and prime accused in the
2G spectrum allocation scam, A. Raja will complete a year behind bars on Thursday.
The
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested Raja on February 2, 2011. He has been lodged in the Tihar Jail ever since.
Raja's arrest came in the wake of a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report indicting him of allegedly manipulating telecom policy to favour certain firms in the allocation for 2G spectrum licences.
Over one year that Raja has spent in jail, the disgraced minister has seen a number of fellow accused swelling the jail ranks. However, most have been granted bail now.
Apart from Raja, ex-telecom secretary Siddhartha Behura remains in jail.
A
DMK-member of Parliament and a close aide of party chief and former Tamil Nadu chief minister Karunanidhi, Raja is yet to move a bail application. He has maintained that he
wants to see everyone else get bail before he moves a plea to leave jail.
According to jail officials, Raja spends his time by talking to fellow inmates, going on long morning walks and playing badminton.
